We thank God Almighty for granting us grace and strength to serve him and humanity through the year 2023.

The current executive was elected to office on the 6th of February 2022 at the Annual General Meeting, with Dr. Erere Otrofanowei emerging as the chairman. This executive was charged to lead the affairs of the ministry for two years. The tenure lapses in January 2024.

MEETINGS

Our meetings held every second Sunday of every other month either physically or virtually. We also had some sessions of executive meetings and prayer meetings virtually for our members and their family who were sick or had different challenges. In all we held 1 AGM, 5 OGM, 1 virtual, 5 physical), 4 executive meetings (3 virtual) and a few prayer meetings.

ACTIVITIES
  • CHURCH CLINIC: The renewal of registration license, which is still pending was done under the auspices of the Diocesan Medical Foundation, thanks to Dr Abimbola Sowande and Pharm Kelechi Nwagwughiagwu. The clinic ran daily and catered to parishioners and outsiders with strict adherence to COVID 19 safety protocol. While on Sunday it opened for emergency cases only from 9.00am -1.00pm. The Thursday community clinic is fully operational. Both Mrs. Bola Iwunna and Lady Chika Dike-the nurses were on ground as their roster permitted and clinic activities were overseen by Mrs. B.B. Olusanya and Lady Uloma Mbanaso. Towards the end of the year, the Vicar- Venerable Agbelusi introduced a drug donation scheme wherein led- parishioners give drugs to the church clinic to ease the financial burden on the church. This is ongoing and we thank Pharmacist Regina Ezenwa for the facilitation and the givers for their donations. May they be richly replenished.The data on clinic activities for the year 2023 is seen at the end of the report.
  • VISITATION: The Ministry successfully executed impactful hospital visits to patients and healthcare personnel of Massey Street Children’s Hospital, Onikan General Hospital, Police Hospital Falomo, Lagos Island Maternity Hospital and General Hospital Odan. At each visit, members of the Ministry fully engaged with patients and staff of the hospital with praise and worship songs and prayers was said. Our Chaplain at the time, Rev. Emmanuel Mordi and Rev Uchenna Nwanonyoba accompanied the team on some of the visits and their presence was well lauded. The ministry was able to donate useful gifts and hospital equipment as requested by the hospital and assisted in paying hospital bills for a few indigent patients at the different hospitals as needed.The ministry financially assisted and visited a parishioner who was involved in a ghastly motor accident.On the 3rd of December, a member of our ministry noticed a young man who walked into the church, looking slightly confused. Following review by the Chairman and Secretary, he was deemed to need Psychiatric consultation and his admission to the Psychiatric hospital and care was undertaken by the ministry. He has been discharged and has attended church service since then.
  • EASTER CAKE SALES: This successfully took place on the 9th of April 2023. The Easter egg hunt introduced in 2022 year was anticipated with glee in 2023 by the children who took delight in this activity. The ministry is grateful to the Almighty God and sincerely appreciates our Friends/supporters of the HVM/CC, the Elders’ Fellowship and Men’s Christian Fellowship who partnered with us on the ‘A Cupcake per Kid @ Easter theme which saw all the children happily take home an Easter cake for free. We also appreciate all parishioners for their support and patronage.
  • MINISTRY-LED EVENSONG: The HVM/CC conducted the Evensong for the month of May. The cantor was Pharm Regina Ezenwa and Justice Oyebanji gave the sermon. Other members participated in reading scripture, intercessory prayers and so on. It was well attended.
  • HEALTH TALKS: The Ministry was able to deliver different health talks to the parishioners in line with her mission and as agreed by the house in the scheduled activities. These were:
  • ‘Listening to your body: An aide to early detection/ prevention of diseases’ on Mothering Sunday in March 2023
  • Dealing with self-doubt and Low Esteem (dangers of too much social media) to the Youth church in May 2023
  • Environmental risk factors of Breast cancer and adolescent hormonal contraceptive use’ to the congregation in July 2023 (with Emerita Prof. Y.M. Olumide)
  • The Prostate Gland and its problems to the Men’s Christian Fellowship in November 2023
  • The talks above were delivered by the Chairman, Dr. Erere Otrofanowei to the glory of the Lord
  • ‘Oral Health-A key to Heart Health: Unlocking your wellbeing’ by Dr. Olayinka Adeyinka
  • TUESDAY PRAYER MEETINGS: The ministry held a few bi-weekly prayer meetings virtually, led by different members. It provided a forum for encouraging and uplifting ourselves in these trying times in the country and the world at large.
  • SYNOD: The ministry was fully on ground to offer medical services during the synod that held on the 21st of March and 18th-19th September 2023.
  • LDMC ACTIVITIES
    The ministry participated in the activities of the LDMC such as

    • LDMC ANNUAL RETREAT FOR COMMISSION MEMBERS: This held on the 11th March 2023 at OSC, TBS. The guest speaker was Rev Ayodele Onifade and the topic was “The manifestation of sons of God in the medical Profession”, the objectives was; To open our eyes and remind us the purpose of our call in the medical field, and for us to know that we are instruments in the hands of God for service to the people.
    • LDMC MEDICAL OUTREACHES: These took place at St. Michael’s Church, Ogbonwanko, Ajegunle on the 1st of April and St. Paul’s Anglican Church, 7 Okoduwa Str, Comfort Estate, Kirikiri Industrial Estate on the 25th May 2023.
    • ACARDI TRAINING: This held on the 19th August 2023 and several lectures were delivered on how to manage persons with drug abuse. The topics includes:
      • INTRODUCTION TO ARCADI AND NAWADA
      • UNDERSTANDING DRUG ABUSE AND ADDICTION
      • PROTECTING THE FAMILY AGAINST DRUG ABUSE AND ADDICTION: ROLE OF FATHERS
      • UNDERSTANDING DRUG ABUSE: ROLE OF THE CHURCH
    • LDMC AGM and ELECTION
      The AGM and election of the commission held on the 24th September 2023 and the following persons emerged as officers from OSC:

      • Administrator nursing services- Mrs. Olusanya
      • Assistant Administrator nursing services – Lady Mbanaso
      • Diocesan Medical doctor- Dr Nwachukwu
      • Financial Secretary- Miss Victoria Nmadu
      • PRO – Pharm Kelechi Nwagwughiagwu
      • Assistant Treasurer – Miss Funmilayo Ipadeola
      • Dr Koleowo – Chairman of Diocese of Lagos Medical Foundation (DOLMEF) (appointed)
      • Dr Nmadu – Governing board member of DOLMEF (appointed)
    •  LDMC ANNUAL THANKSGIVING ANNIVERSARY MEDICAL SCREENING WEEK: The health week was 16TH -22nd October 2023: OSC organized health screening for the elderly to mark the week. The anniversary thanksgiving took place at the Church of Resurrection, 1004 Housing estate.
    • ST. LUKE’S DAY: Took place on the 18th October 2022 at All Souls Church Lekki. Some of our members were in attendance.

 

  • CHURCH HARVEST: The ministry participated fully in all the harvests in the year under review. We thank the harvest committee for granting us the privilege to serve the Lord.
  • HVM/CC 32nd ANNIVERSARY/ THANKSGIVING WEEK: The anniversary week started with a health talk titled “Oral Health-A key to Heart Health: Unlocking your wellbeing” by Dr. Olayinka Adeyinka to the parishioners on 22nd This was followed by a medical and dental outreach (Know your numbers, Dental/Eye screening) to parishioners on 25th October, it was well-attended especially by the elderly. The parishioners were grateful. Our anniversary visit was to The Rock Apartment for the Elderly Ibeshe, Ikorodu on the 28th October with gift items.
    • The Rock Apartment for the elderly is a Diocesan project and the HVM/CC encourages others to fully support the work being done there.
    • Thanksgiving took place during the 9am service on Sunday 29th October.
  • CHRISTMAS VISITATION: The ministry decided to pay a visit to the Living Fountain Orphanage, Oniru, with some gifts to put a smile on the faces of the children once again. We also visited General Odeka Rtd who has been a major supporter of the ministry.
  • MEMBERSHIP: We welcomed new members in the persons of Mrs. Nneoma Agboh, Mrs. Joy Amadi, Dr. Mrs Uzoiji, and Mrs. Olukemi Osinupebi. We are still open to more members.
  • Chaplain: Uchenna Nwanonyoba replaced Revd. Emmanuel Mordi as our chaplain in September 2023.

 

CELEBRATIONS

Dr. Peter Nmadu, Pharm. Regina Ezenwa, Mrs. Angela Madueme and Justice Adedayo Oyebanji celebrated 70th, 70th, 50th and 60th birthdays respectively in the year. We rejoiced and celebrated with other members who marked their birthday/wedding anniversaries, etc.

We also celebrated with our former Vicar (now The Rt Rev’d Ifedola Senasu Okupevi) on his consecration as the Bishop of the Diocese of Lagos.

OUR LOSES

We thank God immensely as we had no losses in the year 2023.

CONCLUSION AND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

On behalf of the EXCO, we appreciate our Vicar- the dynamic Venerable Oreoluwa Agbelusi, Chaplain-Revd. Uchenna and the other curates, Patron/Matron- Venerable S.B. and Mrs. Josephine Akinola, Mr. Michael Ipadeola- the parish Administrator and Mr. Emmanuel -the accountant for their support and counsel. The entire congregation especially the Friends/Partners of the HVM/CC – Mr. and Dr. Mrs. Wilcox, Gen. Odeka (Rtd), Sir and Lady Obieri, Chief Olusegun Olusanya and Prof. Renner amongst others and all members of the HVM/CC are appreciated as well. Thank you for responding to the call of the neighbour in need; you have inadvertently responded to the call of our Lord Jesus.
