CHRIST THE ANOINTED ONE
“How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him” (Acts 10: 38).
The holy anointed oil (Hebrew – Shemen ha-mishchah, oil of anointing) formed an integral part of the ordination of the priesthood and High Priests as well as consecration of the articles of the Tabernacle (Exodus 30: 26) and subsequently temples in Jerusalem,
The primary purpose of anointing with the holy oil was to cause the anointed persons or objects to become most holy (qodesh). Originally, the oil was used exclusively for priests and the tabernacle articles but was later extended to include prophets and kings (I Samuel 10: 1). It was forbidden to be used on an outsider (Exodus 30: 33) or to be used on the body of any common person (Exodus 30: 32a).
It was used strictly on persons or things to be set apart for special divine uses. It signifies that one is chosen, therefore, any anointed person can be called the chosen one. The Bible says that Jesus was anointed by God with the Holy Spirit to spread the good news and free those who have been held captive by sin (Lk. 4: 18-19). After Christ left the earth, He gave us the gift of the Holy Spirit (John 14: 16). Now all Christians are anointed, chosen for special purpose in furthering God’s kingdom (I John 2: 20). “He who established us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God who also has sealed us and given us the spirit in our hearts as guarantee” (I Cor. 1: 21-22).
As Christians, we are anointed, we are made sacred, set apart and dedicated to serve God. God anointed Jesus and He went about doing good and healing all those that were oppressed by the devil. Before his departure, He commissioned us to do the same.
“These signs shall follow those who believe in my name, they will cast out demons, they will speak with new tongues, they will take up serpents and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them, they will lay hands on the sick and they will recover” (Mark 16: 17 & 18). We can do all these things because the commission is for all believers and not for one special “man of God” somewhere. The early disciples were doing them. “And they cast out demons and anointed with oil many who were sick and healed them” (Mark 6: 13)
If only we realize that ‘we have anointing from the holy one… ‘(I John 2: 20) and dedicate our lives to prayer, study and obedience to the word of God, the anointing in us would be made manifest to the glory of God.
Remain bless!
