FRUITFULNESS THROUGH THE WORD

“This book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall mediate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it, for then you will have good success. Joshua 1:8.

The death of Moses, as recorded in Deuteronomy Chapter 34, was a rude shock to the Israelites and as such paved the way for uncertainties and also gave room for who would fill the vacuum his demise had created. Moreso, the Israelites were yet to get to the “Promised Land” which God had given to them. Their challenges were numerous; who would fit into the ‘big shoes’ of Moses as leader of the Israelites and subsequently lead them into the promised Land? Who would help them fight the enemies that were all around trying to hinder them from moving into the Land of Promise? Who would be the one to give the command that the rebellious Israelites would obey? Moses himself suffered severally in their hand in this regard.

The world today reckons with men and women, organizations and societies that have risen to stardom areas of wealth creation, riches, science and technology, development, industrialization and many more. In any of the above mentioned feat, the success story from any of the people of the Top echelon is attributed to one thing or the other. I remember reading in one of the dailies, the report of a multinational organization which recorded a huge profit in her business and kudos was given to the queen of the coast and the marine world, where she claimed her products were being designed.

Psalm 20: 7 says “Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; But we will remember the name of the LORD our God. There are many alternatives to making it in life, but only one way is sure and lasts. The devil and his agents are lurking around the corners dangling their carrots. It is incumbent on us to choose whether to remember the name of the Lord our God or to trust in things that cannot help anyone.

Joshua was chosen by God to take up the mantle of leadership after the death of Moses. Remember that Moses had been with God on Mount Sinai where he had received the Ten commandments, he had known it, and had taught the children of Israel to obey and keep the commandments, hence they were able to attain the level of success they had until the death of Moses. Joshua, on his own, was expected to follow in the footsteps of his predecessor, hence God told him to hold firmly to the book of the Law in which God had given them instructions, ordinances, judgments and all they needed to know, and to do what was pleasing to God and consequently receive the fullness of God’s blessing.

Hear what the bible says in Deut. 11: 11-12 about the promised land, “but the land which you cross over to possess is a land of hills and valleys, which drink water from the rain of heaven, a land for which the LORD your God cares; the eyes of the LORD your God are always on it, from the beginning of the year to the very end of the year.”

This land was entirely different from the Land of Egypt where they lived for 430years, it was different from any other land they had seen, in fact, it was a land provided, protected, sustained and blessed by God. It had no compassion. It was a land where they would be fruitful in all ramifications.

However, their fruitfulness would be anchored on the word of God. They needed to desire, eat, digest, internalize and live by the word of God.

The word of God offers solutions to myriads of challenges staring us in the face every day, just as it was in the days of Joshua. Joshua was able to succeed because he dug deep into it and made the best use of it. Hebrews 4: 12 says “for the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and Spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart”. God’s word is beyond human comprehension in its efficacy, it is an all-rounder in that there is no difficulty, sickness, failure, death, power, principality or force that can withstand it. It is tested and proven to be beyond the word of man and that of the devil.

The word of God is Jesus Christ as stated in John 1: 1 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” Jesus says in John 15: 4 “Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.

God desires that we should be fruitful as can be seen in Genesis 1: 28 “Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

This is comprehensive fruitfulness accessible to only those who are addicted to the ever living and powerful word of God.

Beloved, it is not too late to join the likes of Joshua, Ezra, Job, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Mary, Anna, Elizabeth and our Master and Saviour Jesus Christ, who treasured the word of God more than their necessary food, and were rewarded beyond measure.

As we daily delight ourselves in the Word of God, may we be fruitful beyond our imagination, in Jesus name.

Have a fruitful and blessed week.
