GREETINGS AND FELICITATION We welcome all our eminent guests (first timers) very specially and pray…
Power In The Name of Jesus
“Then Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” By faith in the name of Jesus, this man whom you see and know was made strong. It is Jesus’ name and the faith that comes through him that has completely healed him, as you can all see.” (Acts 3: 6 & 16).
Each of us possesses a name. It is a name given to us by our parents. Perhaps we were named after some relatives, notable figures in history or in the Bible. Sometimes events significant to our parents influenced whatever names we were given.
It is generally believed by both Jews and Africans that names influence so much on the character of the bearer. This explains why in Genesis 35: 17 & 18 Jacob quickly changed his son’s name given by his dying mother from Benoni (which means son of sorrow) to Benjamin (which means son of my right hand).
God himself changed Abram to Abraham because of the significance of the name to God’s purpose for Abraham. We are witnesses today of rampant change of family names where the bearers think that the meaning or influence of such names are not working in their favour.
In the case of Jesus, the name Jesus (which means Jehovah saves or Jehovah is salvation) was given to Him by the Angel of God before He was born because He was born to save the people from their sins.
Before his departure to heaven, He empowered His disciples to use the name for positive results. Mark 16: 17 ff “And these signs will accompany those who believe; by using my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues. They will pick up snakes in their hands and if they drink and deadly thing, it will not hot them; they will lay hands on the sick and they will recover.”
“Whatever you ask in my name, that will I do that the Father may be glorified in the Son (Matthew 18: 19; Matt. 21: 22; Mark 11: 24; John 14: 13 etc).
Acts 3 records the account of Peter and John going to the Temple at the hour of prayer and their encounter with a man born lame. The man had expected to get some money from them but they told him “We have no money but we have a NAME;” a name when mentioned, would make every knee bow in heaven and under the earth (Phil. 2: 10). Empowered by their Master to use His name to heal the sick, they applied the name and the lame walked.
Brethren have you realized the power in that name? Do you know that Jesus has a name for every situation, He is:-
Son of God (Luke 19: 10)
Our High Priest (Hebrews 3: 1)
Our Advocate & Mediator (1 John 2: 1; 1Timothy 2: 5)
The Messiah (Acts 3: 20)
Horn of salvation (Luke 1: 69)
The word of God (John 1: 1) etc.
To be a Christian you must:-
belived in and be baptized in His name (Acts 2: 38)
believe in the name of Jesus (John 1: 12; John 20: 31)
preach in the name of Jesus (Acts 8: 12)
testify with the power in the name (John 5: 15)
exercise the authority in the name (Acts 3: 6 & 7)
By its very definition, the name of Jesus speaks about salvation. The name means, “Jehovah is Salvation.” This is an appropriate name for the Lord because it is in His name and His name alone that salvation is to be found. The Scripture says that salvation is found in no one else, for there is no name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved (Acts 4: 12).
Yes, there is something special about that name and power in the name of Jesus. His name heals any form of sickness or disease if you believe. Do you know Him? Have you experienced the power behind the name? If you have, then you know why this is a name above every other name. You know why Jesus is exalted and why just the mention of that precious name can speak peace to the troubled, comfort to the hurting, life to the dead, joy to the sad, hope for the hopeless and glory to the saved soul. Do you need Him today? He is as close as the mention of His name (Isa. 55:6).
Have a refreshing life as you anchor your life in His name!
