The Gulf Between The Saved and the Lost
From the garden of Eden, there had been the need of humans to be clothed and we have evolved through several ages and traditions to the present day situation. The major matter in context is not gender or type of dress, but the valueless setting we are building.
Sometimes ago it used to be the problem of western world, and later major African cities, but now even people in places as remote as my grandfather’s village have caught the flame too. Let’s ponder a little on the guys who now sag, the ladies who dress half nude and especially the fear factor for the future generation. Usually when I come across guys that sag, I have formed the habit of asking to help me pull up their trousers.
And this is a menace that is fast growing – nudity. Have you ever wondered what an irony it is for a groom to be well dressed, suited up on his wedding day, but the bride who the ‘world’ have gathered to celebrate marched into the hall with open chest? Satan exposes ladies on the days of their glory, in the name of fashion. I really have not come to understand any moral aim in our sisters going to the market or tailors to get attires that put most of the thighs and breast out for the public view.
What bothers me the most on this matter is the poor trend we are building among girl children. We are becoming aware that some mothers are now in the habit of making their daughters “look hot”. While Muslim girls children are covered with hijab from as young as infancy, are we saying the liberty Christ offered with His life meant our girls can now run naked? Far from it! We have become so much westernized such that even the core believers are now at risk of losing their ground to trend and vogue of fashion. For God’s sake, our sisters and aunties can dress decently and still be very beautiful.
Conversation between grandma and her grand-daughter
Grandma – Akosua, where are you going?
Grand-daughter – Grandma, please I am going to church
Grandma – Really? Please come and sit down and let’s talk for a minute before you go. I think we still have ample time before the church service begins? Don’t we?
Grand-daughter – About an hour, Yes.
Grandma – The way you are dress, in fact, you look very sexy.
Grand-daughter – (Smiling) Thank you very much.
Grandma – Hmmm, I can see you love that compliment please tell me, do you need someone to have sex with you?
Grand-daughter – Ooh noo, grandma, why this question?
Grandma – If you do not need someone to have sex with you, then, why do you dress “sexy”?
Grand-daughter – There’s nothing to worry about grandma, I just want to –
Grandma – (Cuts in) … dress to kill, as usual. A Godly girl should never feel proud or swollen-headed when someone tells her that she looks ‘sexy’. In fact it’s a very bad and insulting compliments. The intention of dressing sexy is to arouse men. That’s all. That’s the reason why prostitutes dress this way. They dress this way because they want someone to have sex with them and pay them. They do everything possible to “look sexy” and attractive – not to just one person, but to the entire men in town! They expose their breasts, they wear things that will reveal all their endowed curves – and even private parts of their body – just to “look sexy” and attractive to men, so that they will not rest until they have a carnal knowledge of them, for money. Please, Akosua, are you also trying to look that way so that you will be attractive to men for sex?
Grand-daughter looked down, and was speechless.
Grandma – (Continues) – This is the reason why you are not getting a husband. Do you still wonder why suitable suitors rush to take you to bed… Then, after saying ‘you are hot’, they dump you? They fell that you cannot stay with ‘one man’ alone! Do you now realize that I, your grandma, is not the one using witchcraft against you? You – young, fit and attractive – look so worldly. As you dress like this, going to church, the probability of bringing even the pastor down is very high. But remember that “woe betide the one by whom a righteous man is made to fall…” I know you can remember this scripture very well. Well, my beloved grand-daughter, I am done. You can now go.
Grand-daughter -Thank you very much grandma. From today onwards, I promise never to dress again “to look sexy” anymore. I will rather dress to look beautiful. I never knew about this. Thank you very much.
Grandma – You are welcome, my dear.
(Seeing that granddaughter started moving towards her room, she said). But are you not going to church anymore?
Grand-daughter – I will, grandma, I need to change my dress, first.
Grandma – May God bless you for doing that.
