THE SURETY OF HIS PROMISES

The Worth and Excellences of the promises are enhanced by the evidences that every one of them can be realized. Behind every promise, we have the Word and oath of Him who cannot lie, that so by these promises, we might have consolation.

Our God is a covenant keeping God; He is a promise keeping God. This is another way to say that “God is a faithful God”. He is not a liar. This is established in Numbers 23:19 “God is not a man that He should lie; nor a son of man, that He should change His mind. Does He speak and not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?” This is further emphasized in the words of David in Psalm 89:34 “Thus says the Lord, “My covenant will I not violate or break, or alter what my lips have uttered”. What God is simply saying here is, in Latin, “Dictum, Meum, Pactum” which means “My WORD is my BOND”. This is the motto of the London Stock exchange adopted in 1923.

D.L Moody once said, “God never made a promise that was too good to be true”. Unfortunately, many of us find it difficult to take God for His words; instead, they prefer to uphold flip promises made by mortal beings. The bible says, “Woe unto him who puts his trust in man”.  (Jere. 17: 5)

Many are yet to know the promises of God for their lives, hence they couldn’t claim it. Someone once said, “The picture of your future is in the scripture”. Search the scripture, and stand on the promise which cannot fail.

On the other hand, promise often time, comes with condition. “If you do this, then I will do this…” Therefore, concerning your business, concerning your health, concerning your marriage, concerning your spouse and concerning your children, “IF” you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land (Isa. 1:19). Remember, with God all things are possible; nothing is difficult for Him to do; and His promises are Yea and Amen (2 Cor. 1:20). Therefore, Christ is made our Surety, not only of all God’s promises, which He ratified with His own blood (Heb. 7:22), but of all the promises concerning His blood-washed children. As “the Truth” (John 14:6), He will ever act in harmony with His own nature. Our duty and responsibility therefore is to hold on to these promises till they come to fruition in our lives.  We must always bear in mind while we wait, that God’s promises are conditional or covenantal.  And so for us to receive those promises, on our part, there are obligations which we must fulfil.

As you wait for His kind promises, you will never be disappointed.
